WonderCon 09: Watchmen & Star Trek Panels (Photos & Video) + Giveaways!
On Saturday we spent the day in San Francisco at WonderCon with our good friend Brian, who shares my sci-fi and pop culture enthusiasm and then some. He is a great graphic artist (who created the logos for both of my blogs), and he took the excellent photos and video below. If you are an athlete, you must check out his blog, Pavement Runner.
We attended the Watchmen and Star Trek panels together, but Brian braved the entire weekend to also enjoy the Chuck, Pixar, Sarah Connor Chronicles and Terminator Salvation panels as well! He was kind enough to share pictures from all of them, and I will post those photos later this week.
WATCHMEN
Guests: Director Zack Snyder, graphic novel illustrator Dave Gibbons, actors Malin Akerman (Laurie Jupiter/Silk Spectre II), Billy Crudup (Dr. Manhattan/Jon Osterman), Jackie Earle Hailey (Walter Kovacs/Rorschach), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Edward Blake/The Comedian) and Patrick Wilson (Dan Dreiberg/Nite Owl II).

They showed us just over 15 minutes from the film, which opens this Friday. Without giving much away, I will say that the opening title sequence is one of the most phenomenal and creative that I've ever seen. This is going to be an outstanding visual ride, and one that will successfully mirror the brilliance of the original graphic novel.

Guests: Director J.J. Abrams, executive producer Bryan Burk, screenwriter Roberto Orci, stars Chris Pine (Kirk), Zachary Quinto (Spock) & Zoe Saldana (Uhura)

I am not a Trekkie by any means, and The Wrath of Khan is my favorite among the many previous Star Trek films. Abrams treated us to a longer, unreleased trailer...and I watched it with wide eyes and goosebumps. He has more than reinvigorated the franchise. I look forward to this film more than just about any other this year.

Thanks for reading, and have a great week!

I am a fan of both, but Star Trek has my heart. I too watched the trailer with goosebumps. I almost CRIED. lol! And I'm really looking forward to seeing Karl Urban (McCoy) because I met him when. lol!
Great pictures!

I did get teary-eyed during the trailer for Trek. Been a fan for almost my entire life, to see Kirk take the chair for the first time.... wow.
Again, nice meeting you, Jo. Thanks again!

I'm so overly excited about both Watchmen and Star Trek this year, not least because Watchmen is out for my birthday and Star Trek for my husband's! They mark me out as the geek I am and they were integral parts of my teen and young adult years.
Watchmen made all the comics I'd read growing up somehow cooler, because it reinvented the genre to some extent. I'm a cynic at heart and suddenly I had some suitably dystopian heroes. And the comic became more mainstream, which allowed me to talk about these things.
As for Star Trek, each series and each film has a place in my memory, the series I like more than others, same with the films. And yet, this is the film I'm waiting for the most - and not least for Zachary Quinto as Spock, but also because Star Trek is going a bit more mainstream with this 'reboot', and sci-fi is no longer for watching in
'hiding'!

I wanted to go! It's times like these that I wish I lived closer. I can't wait until Friday for Watchmen! (I can't win since I'm related to you, but I do want to talk to you after you have seen it!)

I'm excited about Star Trek because, outside of being part of a franchise I ADORE, it's got so many other things I love in it. JJ Abrams, who brought us Lost and Alias! Zachary Quinto, the highlight of Heroes (AS SPOCK, too)! Simon Pegg, the hilariously funny and deeply talented!
I want it, I want it now.

I had a great time hanging out with you all day Saturday... great event.
I'm stoked about the Watchmen. It looks like everyone that made the film is a huge fan. It is such a game-changing graphic novel that is has to come across true to the story. It has high expectations and from what we saw... it does a great job of meeting those expectations. If they can pull off Dr. Manhattan and Mars, i think it will do well. ALSO, if they really do make an extended version that includes the (soon to be made) 45 min Black Freighter Sub-Story, it is going to be awesome.
(no schwag for me, just wanted to share.) Enjoy the pics.
