From A's to Rays: My World Series 08 Team
As an Oakland A's fan who follows the careers of ex-Athletics (no matter where Billy Beane trades them), there appears to be a clear-cut choice for who I should root for in the upcoming World Series.
I have no family ties in either Philly or Tampa Bay, so I decided to make a list of reasons why I should back the Phillies or the Rays...which made it obvious and easy.
Philadelphia Phillies
- Pitcher Joe Blanton was recently acquired from Oakland
- MVP shortstop Jimmy Rollins is from Oakland
- My friend & fellow pop culture blogger Cinematically Correct is a die-hard fan
- First baseman Carlos Pena was one of my favorite A's
- DH Jonny Gomes is a local boy (born in SF, raised in Petaluma)
- My buddy Tom is a huge fan & Sports Producer in Tampa Bay; he's even sporting the team mohawk ("rayshawk")
- I'm an American League girl; always have been, always will be
- They emerged as divisional champs over the perennial favorite Yankees & Red Sox (whom I dislike almost as much as the Angels)
- Rays coach Joe Maddon is a Lost fan!

Here are my reasons to root for the Phils:
1. They beat my Dodgers and, thus, deserve my respect.
2. Utley is a former Bruin.
3. They are an original N.L. franchise and how many World Series have they won? I think it's only one.
4. At least they don't have a killer disease emblazoned on their caps.

I played Fantasy Baseball for the first time this year and since it was a Fantasy League I moved and traded players throughout the year, so here is my list:
Phillies:
Ryan Howard (whole season)
Shane Victoriano (partial - 146 at bats)
Jayson Werth (partial - 48 at bats)
Bret Meyers (partial - 32 innings)
Rays:
B.J. Upton (whole season)
Evan Longoria (partial - 92 at bats)
Matt Garza (partial - 65 innings)
Andy Sonnanstine (partial - 11 innings)
Dan Wheeler (partial - 13 saves)
Sadly, I won't watch the games, only the highlights, but Go Rays!

My heart is breaking. Well...at least I like the A.L. reason, I usually pull for the N.L. every time.
I just wrote up my post on why my (that's right, my) Fightin' Phils are going to win this thing. I am truly a sick, obsessed individual.
