Is it possible that Michael CAN kill himself, and Ben is manipulating him?
Let's say that Michael surviving the crash was not of the island's doing, but for lack of a better word, luck or evidence of superior car technology. When Tom meets up with Michael, the gun is fired, meaning only 5 bullets remain. What if Tom swithces Michael's gun with one that does not fire - when Michael tries to shoot himself in the head, there are 6 bullets in the chambers. (Let's also assume that this is not a continuity issue with Lost.)
Tom said that they would keep tabs on Michael, so they would know of his attempted suicide.
Random Theory: Alvar Hanso in the bed next to Michael? No evidence, just thought it might be cool.
