CATCHING A BREAK? THE A'S MAKE A TRADE


(This is the part where you non-baseball fans scroll down to the trivial stuff...)

Wow, the A's made a huge trade today. Jason Kendall is now a Chicago Cub. Perhaps this is the kind of move that will light a fire under the team's lackluster offense.

I am surprised that he was traded because a) Mike Piazza has not recovered enough from his shoulder injury to return as anything other than a DH, and b) Kendall has played a huge role in the success of Oakland's starting rotation this year (the best ERA in the American League, no less). Breaking up that kind of chemistry is a risk, but given GM Billy Beane's track record, I have faith.
